For Oraczewski, wings join the desire for freedom to the knowledge that flight carries risk. The figures in Winged occupy the space between weight and apparent immateriality, recalling both the ambition of Icarus and the care of Daedalus. Autonomy does not mean separation from the world: imagination is tested against limits, responsibility and belonging.
The portfolio brings together different expressions of this motif, from Laocoön and Discobolus works dated 1999 to slender mixed-technique figures from 2018–2019. Their changing scales and surfaces reveal the persistence of an idea rather than one fixed image. Across time, the wing becomes a metaphor for creative independence and the effort of becoming fully oneself.
