White and Red
Focus
Polish identity / historical memory
In White and Red, the colours of Poland become more than a recognizable national pairing. They are pictorial forces charged with memory, sacrifice, solidarity and the difficulty of belonging. Oraczewski brings public history into the physical language of paint, allowing scale, contrast and layered form to carry what a familiar emblem alone cannot express.
The project was presented at the Museum of Independence in Warsaw and belongs to the artist’s broader engagement with cultural and historical symbols. It does not ask viewers to accept one simple narrative of the past. Instead, it invites reflection on how identity is inherited, contested and renewed, and on the responsibilities that come with collective memory.
