Made in 1989, Time Change places the human figure under the pressure of a turning point. Works titled In Ropes, Marked, In Target, Crucifix and Angel of Death bring together signs of constraint, vulnerability, sacrifice and transformation. The images are charged with history without closing themselves around the illustration of a single event.
Large acrylic surfaces make these forces difficult to hold at a safe distance. A body becomes a site where political time and inner experience meet; danger and possibility coexist. The cycle offers an early expression of a concern that remains throughout Oraczewski’s career: what it means to retain agency when the conditions around us are changing.
