Selected Early Works

This is a curatorial selection, not a named historical cycle. It gathers early documented paintings from 1974–1980 to show a language in the process of formation. Landscape 1, Landscape 2 and Hole in the Ground, among others, already reveal an interest in disturbing the stability of a familiar view.

Gesture, concentrated colour and the tension between a depicted place and the material presence of paint anticipate questions that recur decades later. Seen beside Matters, Directions or Collisions, these paintings help identify continuities without pretending that the mature vocabulary was fixed from the beginning. Their importance lies partly in the freedom of experimentation — the record of an artist discovering what painting can hold.
