Lost Shapes

Lost Shapes starts from an unsettling possibility: matter may give rise to form, but it may also absorb that form again. In these predominantly restrained, monochromatic works, the viewer searches for a contour or order that seems present just beyond certainty. A shape gathers itself, then slips back into the surrounding field.
The 2022 paintings turn recognition into an active part of looking. Their subtle structure rewards repeated encounters, when small changes in attention produce different images. Rather than rejecting form, Oraczewski examines how precariously it exists between idea and substance. The series belongs to his broader inquiry into the visible and the latent — what can be perceived, remembered or only sensed.
