In Flight
In Flight brings movement to the threshold between gesture and image. In two mixed-technique works from 1996, Józef Krzysztof Oraczewski uses concentrated reds, dark material passages and sharp interruptions to suggest bodies or signs caught in motion. The compositions resist a stable direction. They ask the eye to follow an action that seems to continue beyond the edge of the canvas. This is a distinct pair of works, closely related to the artist’s recurring inquiries into freedom, the weight of matter and the impulse to exceed limits. Both paintings are reproduced in the National Museum in Kielce’s 2023 monographic catalogue.
