Important Signs

Symbols can hold collective memory long after their original contexts have changed. In Important Signs, Oraczewski brings historical, national and Christian imagery into a present-tense pictorial encounter. Works such as Crucifix, Fighter, Rodło and Polish Pietà approach inherited forms not as untouchable emblems, but as signs whose emotional force can be rediscovered.

The artist does not simply reproduce tradition. Scale, colour, material intensity and changes in visual emphasis place familiar images under pressure. The series asks how cultural inheritance shapes identity, and whether a symbol can remain meaningful without being reduced to one authorized interpretation. History appears as a living relationship rather than an illustration of the past.
