Facades
Period
1995–2009
Media
Acrylic / mixed technique
A façade is made to be seen, but it also hides the spaces behind it. In Facades, architectural surfaces become a precise metaphor for public identity: the roles through which a person seeks recognition, and the private self those roles may conceal. Light, ornament and dense paint attract the gaze without revealing a clear interior.
Works from different years, including Facade with Light and later Façade compositions, suggest that this boundary is never simply false or true. Appearance is part of lived experience, yet it can also become a limit. The cycle brings the artist’s larger concerns with freedom and belonging into an intimate question: how much of ourselves can be shown?
