A direction suggests certainty: a line leading from one point to another. Oraczewski’s Directions complicates that expectation. Often restricted in colour and composed from spare signs, these works ask the eye to notice orientation, movement and hesitation before a recognizable subject emerges.
Works titled Motif, Direction and Jumper reveal how one visual vocabulary can be revisited across years without turning into a fixed code. A mark might indicate a path, but its meaning depends on the relationships formed around it. This apparent simplicity is fundamental to Oraczewski’s wider practice: signs explored here return in later paintings charged with material depth and colour.
